Baku â€“ APA. Azerbaijani Press Council sent a gratitude letter President Ilham Aliyev in connection with the release of the editor-in-chief of Tezadlar newspaper Asif Merzili, the council told APA. The letter regards presidentâ€™s immediate reaction to the Press Councilâ€™s appeal to help release of Asif Merzili as an example of serious approach to the freedom of speech, opinion and information.
â€œWe express our solidarity with your statement, there are more effective, proper means adopted in the international practice to solve the problems with journalists,â€ the letter says.

The letter underlines that the incident was a kind of lesson for contradicting sides. It is noted that the journalistâ€™s professional activity should be treated tolerantly.
â€œYour position was a message proving it once more. It formed a barrier to the forces trying to take advantage of the journalistâ€™s arrest to damage the countryâ€™s image,â€ the letter said.
