Azerbaijan’s Press Council has publicized the March results of the monitoring conducted in media with financial support of the US embassy within the framework of the project “Observing norms and laws of professional ethics in media”, APA reports. Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov told the press conference that 1967 violations of professional ethics were recorded in media last month.
Chairman of the Press Council said most common violations were journalist’s biased approach (350 times), violation of balance (324 times), journalist’s propaganda in favor of and against (306 times), usage of materials without quoting the author (306 times), usage of materials without quoting the author showing his own signature (304 times), damaging business image (95 times), distortion of facts (33 times), insult (33 times), slander (26 times).
Amashov said similar violations were recorded in the newspapers “Ses”, “Olaylar”, “Yeni Musavat”, “Tezadlar”, “Zaman”, “Respublika”, “Reyting”, “Azadlig”, “Muasir Musavat” and “Khural”. The principle of “Inviolability of honor, dignity, private life” was violated in newspapers and websites 188 times. Over 120 of these violations were recorded in the newspapers published 2-3 times and once a week.
