Gabala hosts first international seminar-meeting within TASIM project

Baku - APA-Economics. The first international seminar-meeting within framework of The Trans-Eurasia Information Superhighway Project has today kicked off in Gabala, press service of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies told APA.

Delivering keynote speech at two-day event, deputy minister of communications and IT Elmir Valizadeh welcomed the participants and spoke about common aims of the project, future perspectives. He wished the participants effective discussions directed to realization of the project.

On the first day of the event considered general, technical and legal concepts of TASIM project prepared by the internatial experts, as well as giving information provided by the representtaives of the leading operators on current state in telecommunication sector of countries, future plan and projects.

The second day of the event it is planned to establish Permanent Secretariat on TASIM in Baku and conduct view exchange on preparation of Memorandum of Understanding for organization of future joint activity. The purpose of seminar-meeting is to conduct discussion on issues about management of project, regulation of relations between the participant operators, coordinating of interests and establishment of international consortium. Leading telecom operators of Azerbaijan, Russia, China, Turkey and Kazakhstan are attending the discussions.

Note that, on 21 December 2009, the UN General Assembly at its 66th session backed this initiative by adopting a resolution entitled “Building connectivity through the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway”. The resolution recognizes that “information and communication technologies have the potential to provide new solutions to development challenges, particularly in the context of globalization, and can foster economic growth, competitiveness, access to information and knowledge, poverty eradication and social inclusion that will help to expedite the integration of all countries, particularly developing countries, into the global economy.” It also recognizes “the immense potential that building connectivity can have in contributing to social progress, including in advancing the status of women and promoting social integration and tolerance”.
