Fire effects cleared up at Russian port of Ust-Luga after drone attack, governor says

Russian authorities quickly cleared up damage on Friday from a fire at the Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga, a major ‌hub for oil exports, that had been triggered by a Ukrainian drone attack, regional governor Alexander Drozdenko said, Reuters reports.

Ukraine has been striking targets within Russia, from ports and refineries to commercial warehouses, in a bid to raise the costs for ⁠Moscow of pursuing the full-scale war it launched in 2022.

"All consequences of the attack in the port of Ust-Luga have been cleared up," Drozdenko posted on Russian messaging service MAX. "There were no casualties."

He gave no further details. Earlier, Drozdenko said more than 50 drones were downed overnight in the northern region around St Petersburg.

More than a dozen major refineries have been hit, some of ‌them ⁠repeatedly, causing widespread fuel shortages.

The governor of the Tver region northwest of Moscow reported another attack overnight on a warehouse of online retailer Wildberries, whose sites have been targeted more than 20 times in ⁠the past month.

Debris from "enemy drones" damaged the wall of the facility but there were no injuries, he said.

Also in the Baltic region on Friday, ⁠fighter jets shot down a drone that entered the airspace of NATO and EU member Latvia, its armed forces said, while ⁠Finland temporarily curbed movement in parts of the Baltic Sea to guard against drone attacks.
