Baku-APA. 12 persons smuggling drugs from the Islamic Republic of Iran were detained as a result of the operation carried out in the recent days. 40.5kg drugs were seized from them, Public Affairs Center of the Ministry of National Security told APA.
It was found out that a part of these drugs were grown in the territories of Azerbaijan Republic occupied by Armenia, later they were trafficked to Iran and from Iran to Azerbaijan.
Citizens of Azerbaijan – Bagirov Babek Surkhay, Maharramov Ramil Bayram and citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ibrahimi Esger Sekhavet, who were engaged in illicit drug trafficking, were detained as a result of the operation carried out by the Ministry of National Security. Babek Bagirov, Ramil Maharramov, Esger Ibrahimi and another citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran, resident of Garagabag village of Parsabad region Ersalam Halim smuggled more than 8kg hashish, 7kg opium, 9.5kg marihuana from Iran to Azerbaijan.
Esger Ibrahimi said while giving a testimony that the dried marihuana given to him in Iran by Ersalam Halim was grown in Karabakh occupied by Armenians. He also said the drugs grown by Armenians in the occupied territories were smuggled to Azerbaijan and other countries through Iran.
