Yerevan has asked the Eurasian Economic Commission to recognize Russia's restrictions on imports of Armenian products as an economic barrier, Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan said, Hraparak reports.
Papoyan said that Yerevan considers the issue a purely economic dispute between the two countries and disagrees with Russia's position.
It should be noted that since June 12, Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) has restricted the import of all products subject to quarantine control from Armenia to Russia, as well as their transit through Russian territory to other Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries.
The Russian side stated that the restrictions were imposed not for political reasons, but due to the failure to ensure proper quality control of the products.
Armenian producers, meanwhile, have announced that they have already suffered significant losses as a result of the restrictions.
