Head of the Public Relations Center of the National Security Ministry told APA that citizen of Azerbaijan Guliyev Amir Nijat was arrested in 2013 on August 7 under article 228.1 (Illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation or carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it) of the Criminal Code.
Guliyev was sentenced to pretrial detention on August 8 under the court’s judgment.
Some media outlets report that employees of the National Security Ministry detained Guliyev at his country house, found machinegun, grenades and pistol from his car. He was sentenced to 2 months in prison.
Guliyev was acting minister of foreign economic affairs in 1993-95. Then he went to the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and worked as advisor of President Aslan Abashidze till 2004.
Later, he returned to Azerbaijan and had business in Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Guliyev was also arrested in 2005 on October 19. Though Guliyev faced charges of coup d'etat, he was released later.
