Baku – APA. Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel General Safar Abiyev has today received U.S. co-chair for the Minsk Group James Warlick.

Defense Ministry’s press service told APA that Abiyev informed the guest about the military-political situation in the region. The Minister mainly touched on the causes of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and noted that though aggressive policy of Armenia had been lasting for more than twenty years, the international community, especially the OSCE Minsk Group hadn’t made initiatives that could be beneficial for the resolution of the conflict: “Instead of this, unfortunately occupant and victim have often been treated equally. For some reason, we are still witnessing indifference, though Azerbaijan has repeatedly put forward its fair position on the conflict.”

The Minister noted that 4 resolutions adopted by the United Nations hadn’t been implemented and underlined obstacles caused by Section 907. He said that failure to take resolute and effective steps for the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict causes further escalation of the situation.

The Minister noted that Azerbaijan hadn’t occupied territories of any country and wouldn’t give an inch of its land to anyone. “Withdrawal of Armenian forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan is the only way to resolve the conflict peacefully. We have no any other condition.”

Co-chair James Warlick noted that they would spare no efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and cooperation with Azerbaijan on the abovementioned issues would be intensified.

U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar also attended the meeting.
