The trial has begun in the criminal case initiated by the State Security Service (SSS) against Shohrat Mammadov, who is accused of treason by carrying out assignments for foreign intelligence services, APA reports.
At the hearing held in the Baku Military Court under the chairmanship of Judge Zaur Hajiyev, the personal details of the accused were clarified.
The court decided to refer the case for review, and the trial hearing was scheduled for November 14.
Note that Shohrat Mammadov was detained during an operation conducted by the State Security Service. He has been charged under Article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Mammadov was arrested in March of this year by SSS officers. He is accused of committing treason in the form of espionage against the sovereignty, territorial integrity, state security, and defense capability of the Republic of Azerbaijan. If found guilty, he faces 12 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
