More than eleven thousand biological samples from the close relatives of our compatriots who went missing have been collected and systematized in the relevant genetic laboratory, said Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev in an interview with the official press, APA reports.
He said that about 800 remains of bodies were removed from 29 mass graves discovered during excavations in the liberated territories and sent for examination. As a result of the court's molecular-genetic examination, 203 of the persons who went missing in the First Karabakh War were identified and handed over to their families, and buried in accordance with the requirements of the legislation and national-religious traditions.
The Prosecutor General noted that out of 3,990 people registered as missing, 3,984 went missing in the First Karabakh War, and 6 went missing in the 44-day Patriotic War. 3,211 of them are servicemen and 779 are civilians.
