The Ministry of Emergency Situations has released information regarding the situation caused by the discovery of methane gas in the village of Mammadli, Absheron district, the Ministry told APA.
Gas leakage has been observed in the yards of private houses located on Hasanbay Agayev and Ziya Bunyadov streets in Mammadli village, Absheron district, near the territory of the “Yanardag” State Historical-Cultural and Natural Reserve.
It was noted that immediately after the information was received, specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the “Azerigaz” Production Union, and the Absheron District Executive Authority conducted inspections in the area and drew up a report:
“During the inspection, holes were drilled using the ‘shulf’ method at the ground surface in areas close to the foundations of private houses located at the mentioned address, in their yards, and in vacant non-residential land plots. Measurements conducted with devices detected methane gas (CH4). To prevent possible explosion and fire incidents and ensure the safety of residents, the ‘Azerigaz’ Production Union temporarily suspended gas supply to the area.
Considering that the findings from the conducted inspections indicated explosion and fire hazards, and in order to ensure the safety of the population and the area, an interagency working group has been established based on a relevant instruction of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The group includes representatives of the Ministries of Emergency Situations, Ecology and Natural Resources, Science and Education, SOCAR, and the Absheron District Executive Authority. The working group is currently carrying out comprehensive work in the area to determine the source and composition of the detected gas and to take necessary measures. A relevant decision will be made shortly based on the results of the investigation.”
It was stated that the issue remains under control, and the public will be regularly informed about developments.
