Azerbaijani woman detained with drugs at Tbilisi Airport-UPDATED

The Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia has formally charged an Azerbaijani citizen who was detained for illegal acquisition, storage and importation of a large amount of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, APA's local bureau reports.

Based on the prosecutor's office's motion, the court has chosen a preventive measure of arrest against the person.

The investigation revealed that the 37-year-old Azerbaijani citizen illegally acquired and stored 6.2894 grams of the narcotic drug methamphetamine and 6.3 grams of the psychotropic substance pregabalin and brought them to Georgia through Tbilisi International Airport.

If convicted, the Azerbaijani citizen will face up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

A 1998-born Azerbaijani woman, identified as E.A., has been detained in Georgia on charges of illegally acquiring, possessing, and importing into the country a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, APA’s local bureau reports, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

During an inspection of her hand luggage at Tbilisi International Airport, law enforcement officers seized pills containing narcotic and psychotropic substances as material evidence.

The investigation into the case is ongoing. The crime carries a penalty of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
