During January–October of this year, with the organization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the participation of representatives of other relevant agencies, 2,600,707 wild-growing narcotic plants with a total green mass of 304 tons 762 kg were identified across an area of 1,201.5 hectares and destroyed in accordance with the established procedure, APA reports, citing the information of the Permanent Working Group of the State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.
The total value of 7 tons 263 kg 229.113 grams of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances seized from illegal circulation is estimated at 185,166,000 AZN.
A total of 4,687 people have been prosecuted for illegal drug trafficking, of whom 4,545 were men and 142 were women. Of the 84 foreign citizens brought to criminal liability, a total of 936 kg 499.874 grams of various types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and 271.772 grams of cannabis plants were seized.
Law enforcement agencies detected 212 cases related to the smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances into the country, and in these cases, 3 tons 087 kg 262.033 grams and 10,506 methadone pills, 13,194 tablets and 5.7 grams of potent substances were removed from illegal circulation.
In total, 251 of the detected crimes were committed in group form, and in these cases, 2 tons 348 kg 977.374 grams of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and 36 grams of potent substances were confiscated.
