Azerbaijani Journalists Congress IV begins
The council did its best to prevent the removing of Azadliq newspaper, Turan information Agency and other mass media from their premises, the chairman noticed.
PC chief asked the congress to give competence for taking measures about the problems occurred in press.
“This competence allows appealing to court when the press bodies break journalism ethics, after being warned for four-five times.
Amashov said that collecting of membership fees is low (20 %). According to his words, some mass media even do not keep in touch with council. That is why 25 mass media were removed from PC. More 20-25 organs were warned for the last time. The council stressed the inevitability of the fact that the person, whose imprisonment has not been cancelled, can not work as the editor-in-chief. Then Amashov’s speech was discussed.
After the discussion the chairman’s report was considered to be satisfactory. The Ibrahim Mammadli made speech. His speech was followed by journalists’ speeches. The journalists spoke about apartment problems, establishment of Press House, giving more competence to PC, and made proposals about holding the congress every three or five years. The representative of Justice Ministry observing the work of the congress stressed the importance of holding the congress every year, as the PR is NGO. /APA/
