Two-day international seminar is held on “The development of vocational education by means of UNEVOC within the memorandum between the Ministry of Education and UNESCO. CIS countries and UNESCO experts in the field of vocational education participate in the seminar, APA reports.
Misir Merdanov stated at the seminar that there are 107 technical vocational institutions in Azerbaijan. 47 of them are vocational collages and 60 are vocational schools. There are 23 146 students studying 101 vocations and 4251 pedagogical personnel in these institutions. The minister said that the buildings and logistics of the institutions do not meet international demands.
“Some people say that school-leavers are not given employments. No one would take an employee who cannot use working equipments, he noted. Misir Merdanov also released the results of monitoring by US International Cooperation Bank in 87 vocational institutions. The institutions lack financial support though the government allocated more funds to this field. Only 5-8 per cent of Azerbaijani students wish to continue their study at vocational schools. Misir Merdanov said that a number of offers have been prepared concerning the development of the field. First of all, normative legislative base should be improved, national strategy should be prepared and logistics should be improved in order to develop the vocational institutions, he considered. /APA/
