Gadji Chankayev sentenced to 5 years 6 months in jail

A trial of Gadji Chankayev arrested in Baku was held yesterday in Dagestan Court, a lawyer to Chankayev Elman Osmanov told the APA. Chankayev was sentenced to 5 years 6 months in jail by court’s decision. The lawyer said that Chankayev will be brought to the trial to be held on December 19 in Baku.
It should be noted that, Russia law enforcement bodies accused Chankayev of terror resulted with the death of people in 2002, but then he was accused of carrying illegal gun.
On December 19, Azerbaijan Supreme court presided by Muzeffer Agazadeh will consider the appeals of Chankayev and other members of the group. Chankayev was sentenced to 7 years in jail by the decision of Court of Grievous Crimes. He was extradited to Russia after Russia Prosecutor General’s appeal, the group composed of Azerbaijani, Russia, Turkish and Yemen citizens including Chankayev were the members of Al-Gaeda and have been trained in Pankisi, Georgia territory. The group members are accused of carrying illegal guns, committing terrors and murdering the officer of Nasimi Police Department Movlan Alibeyov and some other criminal cases. /APA/
