Gurban Yetirmishli: â€œThe activity of seismic focus in Zagatala has been observed since Januaryâ€

More than 20 aftershocks were recorded in Zagatala on May 8 from 00.00 till 08.00, director general of the Republican Seismological Service Center of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Gurban Yetirmishli told APA. According to him, generally more than 100 shocks above 1-magnitude occurred in Zagatala region yesterday. Currently, the situation is calm in the region, but weak aftershocks are being recorded: â€œThese aftershocks will last longer. Such aftershocks and consumption of energy is normal.â€

Yetirmishli said that currently, Minister of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan Kemaleddin Heydarov is in the region: â€œThe scale of destructions is being specified and the list of damaged houses is being determined by the order of Azerbaijani President.â€

General Director said that the quake in Zagatala region has no connection with convergence of the moon to the earth: â€œThe activity of seismic focus in this region has been observed and 16 aftershocks have been recorded since early January.â€
