Human rights defenders: â€œChristopher Strasserâ€™s in absentia report on Azerbaijan is laughableâ€

APA reports that in her speech, chairwoman of the Dilara Aliyeva Society for Protection Women’s Rights Novella Jafaroglu said that they were investigating many processes in Azerbaijan: â€œWe investigated the case of Turaj Zeynalov who died in pretrial detention centre of National Security Ministry of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. You know that his family members refused to meet us during our visit to Nakhchivan, but then sent some documents to usâ€.

Jafaroglu said that the documents presented by Zeynalovâ€™s family were investigated and they would complain on the fact to the European Court.

Human rights defender Saadat Bananyarli spoke about Guba incidents occurred in March: â€œThe speech of chief executive authority in Guba was made at the meeting held in November. But the riots occurred in March. Evidently, somebody is interested in such incidents in Azerbaijan. In my opinion, the arrested persons are not organizers of the riots, they are just the participantsâ€.

Bananyarli also commented on European Court decisions adopted on Azerbaijan: â€œSome judges doesnâ€™t pass right decisions. Thatâ€™s why Azerbaijani state has to pay a fine. We propose the judges, who causes that fine, to pay it.

Saida Gojamanli also commented on refusal of PACE Rapporteur on Political Prisoners Christopher Strasser to arrive in Azerbaijan: â€œHis refusal to arrive in Azerbaijan is a strong blow on the image of his organization. He said that he would make a report on Azerbaijan in absentia. It is very laughable. Today there 24 political prisoners in our list and this list was made objectively. We didnâ€™t put chairman of the Islamic Party Haji Movsum Samadov and the other arrested persons on the list, because there are enough contradictory issues. But we consider important to restart the judicial trials on them, Said Dadashbeyli, who is accused of coup, and the other arrested persons. We have always raised an issue on it. There are very serious problems in the health of former chief of Education Ministryâ€™s Finance Department Orkhan Karimov. But Judge Ramella Allahverdiyeva doesnâ€™t care about itâ€.
