Ombudsperson meets Idrak Abbasov

Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh â€“ APA. Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) Elmira Suleymanova met with employee of â€œZerkaloâ€ newspaper Idrak Abbasov, who was subjected to violence during demolition of illegal houses in Sulutepe settlement of Binagadi district on April 18 and placed in Baku Clinic Medical Center. Press service of the Ombudspersonâ€™s Office told APA.

During the meeting with Abbasov, Suleymanova said that the investigation was carried out into the fact and took interest in his health. Abbasov informed Suleymanova on the incident and said that he was beaten, insulted by SOCARâ€™s employees despite he wore journalistâ€™s waistcoat, police officers didnâ€™t use any violence during this incident, rather, tried to prevent it.

Abbasov expressed satisfaction with the conditions and attitude to him in the hospital.

Suleymanova addressed the hospitalâ€™s head physician Tarlan Babirov and tasked to keep Abbasovâ€™s health under special control. Ombudsperson said that the incident occurred in Sulutepe settlement was in spotlight and being investigated.

Suleymanova addressed interior minister and prosecutor general for all-round and neutral investigation of the issue.
