Ground waters create lake in Ismayilli landslide area

The monitoring conducted in Ismayilli city and its 25 villages by chief engineer of the Complex Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology Expedition of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry Shaig Niftiyev was finished, Niftiyev told APAâ€™s local bureau. He said that all 26 landslide zones were examined: â€œThe monitoring revealed that the activation was observed in the landslide zones last month and the area was gradually expanding. The most activated landslide area is located in the regionâ€™s II Yeniyol village. We examined that site together with specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and compiled the parameters, contours and development dynamics of the landslide. The width of the landslide increased to 400m, length â€“ to 800m in this area, depth of splits along the river is 4-5m. The thickness of the landslide mass reached 5m. The ground waters are one of the reasons of landslide and its activation. The ground water discharge is recorded along the landslide area. 10m width and 30m length lake appeared as a result of gathering of ground waters on landslide mass existing in the lower part of II Yeniyol village. We will continue our observations thereâ€.

According to Niftiyev, the landslide processes in Shamakhiâ€™s Mughanli village and Ismayilliâ€™s II Yeniyol village are similar. He noted that the factors causing the activation of landslide in both areas were the same. The landslide increased to 30% in II Yeniyol village. Besides, we found new landslide areas in regionâ€™s Hajihatamli, Kalazeyve, Sulut, Guyum and Diyalli villages this yearâ€.
