Court passes judgment on Samir Mehdiyev, activist of “Forest brothers” armed group

Judgment was passed at the hearing presided by Afgan Hajiyev. Samir Mehdiyev was sentenced to 15-year imprisonment with 2 years in closed prison.

Public prosecutor had demanded 15-year imprisonment for Samir Mehdiyev with 3 years in closed prison.

The armed group also joined by Samir Mehdiyev is accused of committing blast in Juma mosque known as Abu Bakr in Narimanov district of Baku on August 17, 2008. 2 were killed, 18 injured as the hand grenade blasted.

According to the operations carried out by the National Security Ministry, Ilgar Mollachiyev, aka Abdulmajid, who declared himself as emir of “Dagestani people”, his brother-in-law Samir Mehdiyev, aka Suleyman and other radical religious persons were considered suspects.

Other members of the “Forest brothers” were detained by the National Security Ministry, Samir Mehdiyev fled to Penjebura and then to Quetta. In January, 2010 Samir Mehdiyev was detained basing on the report of the National Security Ministry. On March 16, Samir Mehdiyev was brought from Pakistan to Azerbaijan.
