Provocation is a provocation,” ArtÅ«ras Žurauskas, the Lithuanian ambassador to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, exclusively told APA while commenting on the scandal over the uploading of Lithuanian diplomats’ phone conversations.

According to him, a certain opinion has been formed in Lithuania, there are institutions that are dealing with this issue: “I have already written the resignation letter and raised the issue of confidence. If there is confidence, I will not be recalled, if there is no confidence, I will be recalled.”

Benediktas Juodka, chair of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs, told APA that Seimas has today held a closed meeting: “For this reason, I can not give detailed information about the meeting. The discussions at Seimas have already been completed and the next steps will be taken by Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry. The final decision will be passed by the president through a relevant order.”

The proposal of Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius to recall their ambassadors to Azerbaijan and Hungary has been refused at today’s meeting of the committee.

The records are said to had been uploaded to on 8 July, 2013, in one of which, two Lithuanian diplomats are said to be involved in a conversation. It is presumed that one of the diplomats is Zenonas Kumetaitis, deputy director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Eastern Neighbourhood Policy Department, and the other one is Renatas Juška, Lithuania’s Ambassador to Hungary. The men in the recording are having an informal conversation about Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, personal opinions on the conflict between the two countries, Azerbaijani and Armenians’ active participation in the resolution of issues related to them at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the establishment of a group of friendship with Nagorno-Karabakh in the Lithuanian Seimas.

“I consider it right to call Nagorno-Karabakh as Artsakh. I am supportive of those who lead Armenians,” the man, named as Juska said.
