The body of the captain of the ship struck near Odesa has been sent to Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
“As a result of the relevant consular measures and coordination efforts carried out by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Ukraine, the body of Samad Nasrullayev, the captain of the ‘Atlas Bey’ vessel, was sent to our country on July 17. We once again extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased ship captain. May he rest in peace,” the statement said.
It should be noted that a civilian merchant vessel carrying Azerbaijani citizens came under a drone attack off the coast of Odesa, Ukraine. The incident occurred at around 3:15 p.m. local time on July 14. The civilian merchant vessel “Atlas Bey,” owned by Türkiye’s Okean Maritime company, was targeted in the attack. Eleven members of the ship’s crew were Azerbaijani citizens.
Ten Azerbaijani crew members were evacuated via Moldova and departed for Azerbaijan through Türkiye.
The body of Samad Nasrullayev, the captain of the civilian merchant vessel “Atlas Bey,” who was killed in the drone attack, was later recovered.
