A person wanted internationally has been arrested in the Republic of Serbia and extradited to Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Justice told APA.

According to the information, the Ministry continues effective cooperation with the competent authorities of foreign countries to locate, detain and bring to Azerbaijan individuals placed on the international wanted list on criminal charges.

Another individual wanted internationally by the National Central Bureau of Interpol in the Republic of Azerbaijan and located in the Republic of Serbia was extradited to Azerbaijan by the Ministry on July 19.

The individual, Azerbaijani citizen Sabuhi Elburus oghlu Mammadov, was charged under Article 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan with fraud committed in 2023 by abusing trust and deception with the intent of unlawfully obtaining another person's property. According to the charges, he caused large-scale financial damage amounting to AZN 90,869,964 by making false promises to the victim on various occasions. His whereabouts were established in the Republic of Serbia, where he was arrested.

Following a request by the Prosecutor General's Office, as well as negotiations between the parties, agreement was reached on his extradition to Azerbaijan. This once again confirms Azerbaijan's international standing and the Republic of Serbia's role as a reliable partner for the country.

Sabuhi Elburus oghlu Mammadov was brought to Azerbaijan from Belgrade by officials of the Ministry of Justice's Main Department for International Cooperation and the Ministry's Penitentiary Service. Based on a court detention order, he was placed in the relevant pre-trial detention facility.

The Ministry stated that the necessary measures in this area will continue.
