From July 13 to 17, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Fariz Rzayev paid a visit to New York to participate in the ministerial segment of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA.
During his address at the ministerial segment, Fariz Rzayev reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and highlighted the progress achieved in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Speaking at the informal ministerial meeting of the UN General Assembly on the “Stocktaking on the Pact for the Future,” Fariz Rzayev stressed the importance of ensuring that the Pact for the Future remains focused on practical implementation, national priorities, and tangible results.
During the Forum, Fariz Rzayev also addressed an event organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), where he underscored the important role of the Commission and the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in promoting sustainable development and economic cooperation across the region.
Later, speaking at an event titled “National Sustainable Development Goals: Unexploded Ordnance/Mine Action and Accelerating the 2030 Agenda through International Legal Mechanisms,” Fariz Rzayev noted that humanitarian demining has been declared Azerbaijan’s 18th National Sustainable Development Goal. He also spoke about the threats posed by landmines in the liberated territories in the post-conflict period and their impact on reconstruction efforts and the return of internally displaced persons.
