Azerbaijani ambassador to Romania presents copies of his credentials to State Secretary for Strategic Affairs

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. State Secretary for Strategic Affairs Bogdan Aurescu received Farid Abdinbayov, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary agréé of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania, who presented copies of his credentials, APA reports.

State Secretary Bogdan Aurescu extended congratulations to the Azeri ambassador on his appointment to the new position and assured him of full support on the part of Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the successful fulfillment of his diplomatic mandate.

The two officials discussed several themes of the bilateral relations agenda, subsumed to the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Azerbaijan, with a focus on continuing the high-level political dialogue, expanding the governmental contacts and spurring economic cooperation in the field of energy and other areas.

Bogdan Aurescu showed it was absolutely necessary to stimulate cooperation in the economic field, also by arranging business forums and economic missions, as well as a new session of the Joint Economic Commission, as soon as possible. Moreover, he pointed out the opportunities generated by the development of the Black Sea – Caspian Sea shipping corridor, and the utilization of the advantages held out by Constanta harbour and the Danubian corridor that provide access to markets in Europe.

The Azeri ambassador agreed with the Romanian official that Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s recent visit to Baku (27 June 2013) had again revealed the excellent level of the Romanian-Azeri political dialogue and the interest of both parties in deepening the economic cooperation based on implementation of substantial projects, including luring of Azeri investment to Romania and development of the AGRI project. Moreover, he said that Romania is an important partner of his country in the EU and in NATO.

The two officials also approached briefly certain aspects of the Azerbaijan – EU and Azerbaijan – NATO collaboration, in the context of Romania acting, through its embassy in Baku, as NATO Contact Point in Azerbaijan.
