Baku. Shamil Alibeyli – APA. Following the evacuation of 48 Azerbaijani citizens from Egypt, the embassy of Azerbaijan in this country is still receiving appeals regarding return to homeland, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Egypt Shahin Abdullayev told APA. According to him, even the citizens, who have not contacted the embassy earlier, addressed the embassy after they heard about the evacuation of Azerbaijanis: “We are considering the appeals. If the situation really becomes tense, then necessary steps will be taken.”

Abdullayev said that it is difficult to determine the exact number of the Azerbaijani citizens remaining in Egypt: “There are citizens, who are on vacation. There are students, who have finished their study here and returned to Azerbaijan without informing us. They appeal when a problem arises. Many of them are working in other cities, not in Cairo. Following the events called “the second revolution” in Egypt on June 30, we have urged all our citizens to leave the country. We are constantly keeping in touch with our registered citizens.”

Asked about the embassy’s activity, Abdullayev noted that two diplomats are currently working at the diplomatic mission: “At present, I and first secretary Elnur Ismayilov are at the embassy. Our families left Egypt late in June.”
