"January 20th tragedy was the logical conclusion of a dirty and politically sold history," Russian director and screenwriter Liliya Borovskaya said during an event dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the January 20th tragedy at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.

According to her, the tragedy is not well known in Russia. “In Russia, there is more information about Karabakh than the January 20th tragedy. I recently learned that the Azerbaijani public sent a petition to the Nobel Committee to strip Mikhail Gorbachev of his Nobel Peace Prize. This step demonstrates the respect and national pride of the Azerbaijani people. I fully support the public initiative of the Azerbaijani to revoke Gorbachev’s Nobel Peace Prize. Many people in Russia approve of this initiative. Those who support it in Russia refer to Gorbachev as Judas.”

L.Borovskaya said that she had shot two films devoted to Azerbaijan: “The first film is called “Being Azerbaijani”. The second film which has been shot with the support Representation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Moscow, is called “How Long Should I Fly?”.

While we were shooting in Baku, we got acquainted with Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani people one more time. We visited many Azerbaijani families and everywhere we talked about the Karabagh issue whether we want or not. We had so few ideas about the happenings occurred in the region before. It seemed that military operations were carried out somewhere in the Caucasus, the Armenian people were simply fighting with Azerbaijanis. However, I discovered a lot as I learned the history of the conflict. French journalist’s memories of Armenian militants penetrating an Azerbaijani house and taking the mother’s baby dividing the baby into two pieces and throwing to mom’s head especially shocked me. The woman got mad and started to laugh. This event divided my life into two pieces – the one until I heard this event and the one after hearing it. Since that, I couldn’t accept my Moscow life as it was before. I decided that it is necessary to talk about that”.

Russian director said that he saw an interview from the bread festival held after the victory of 44 days of war in Azerbaijani television. “People brought the bread prepared from the wheat grew in their regions from different regions of Azerbaijan as well as from the liberated territories. It may seem usual event at first sight, but it demonstrates Azerbaijan’s desire to return to peaceful life, to revive the land fields, and to live with all their neighbors. This philosophy is based on the self-respect and national dignity belonging to Azerbaijanis. If one of the neighbors sets a forest fire and runs away, another one plants wheat to prepare bread, there is no need to say something else” Borovskaya added.
