The administration of the US National Democratic Institute visited Azerbaijan this week and held talks on the institute's activity in the country, Thomas Melia, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor said at the press conference, APA reports.
"I hope misunderstanding around this issue will be eliminated," said Thomas Melia and noted that NDI is a famous organization implementing programs on democracy and elections, working with the civil society in a number of countries.
"This organization should be regarded a resource. The civil society should enjoy this resource," he said.
Asked about his meeting with chairman of REAL movement Ilgar Mammadov, Thomas Melia said Azerbaijan has not given a concrete answer to the issue raised by the US.
"We have received neither "yes" nor "no" answer," he said.
