Moscow. Farid Akbarov – APA. “The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister’s visit to Israel unambiguously took place at the high level. Of course, the visit was one of the steps in strengthening and developing the relations between the two countries,” said Israeli political analyst Yuri Bocharov in his interview with APA.
To the question that Mammadyarov’s visit can irritate Iran, the expert said: “It doesn’t matter for us what our enemies say. It is important what our friends think about us. Moreover, if our relations seriously worry someone, it means that these relations are really developing well. On the other hand, I consider that regardless of threat and blackmail, the republic leadership is pursuing independent foreign policy. Actually, Azerbaijan-Israel relations indeed have reached the high level.”
Asked about the possibility of recognition of 1915 events as “Armenian genocide” by Israel, Bocharov said that if the seasonal activity of some MPs aiming to attract media is not taken into account, one can say that this issue has not been discussed in Israel: “Several irresponsible challenges were made for recognition of “Armenian genocide” in order to punish Turkey against the background of deterioration of Turkey-Israel relations. But it did not happen.”
As regards the fact that a number of senior officials of Israel, including Deputy Foreign Minister Ze'ev Elkin, who met with Elmar Mammadyarov, support the recognition of the so-called “genocide”, expert said:
“Israel is a democratic state, the state’s policy may not coincide with the personal position of a politician. First of all I am sure that Ze'ev Elkin’s activity as Deputy Foreign Minister fully coincides with the spirit of Israel’s foreign policy,” he said.
