He said the issues set forth in the Convention are important for the establishment of the principles of co-operation on determination of the legal status of the Caspian Sea: “There are a number of issues that are resolved in a bilateral format. For example, Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan have defined seabed boundaries of the Caspian Sea".
Khalafov said that the remaining issues should be discussed and agreed upon: “The main issue is the use of the surface of the Caspian Sea. As you know, very important decisions were made in the summit in Baku. Especially issues on determination of the fishing zone and moratorium on sturgeon fishing were brought up at the Tehran meeting. However, progress was reached in terms of the agreement by the sides of the abovementioned issues within the Convention. The next meeting will be held in Baku in the first half of September, 2013. The preparations will be made till the meeting."
