On September 5, a videoconference meeting was held on the Kanak people's struggle for independence, organized by the Baku Initiative Group, on the topic "The struggle of the Kanak people: international law and decolonization perspectives" , Baku Initiative Group told APA.
The videoconference began with the anthem of the Kanak people.
Leaders of independence movements and political parties from various overseas territories of France - Kanaki (New Caledonia), Corsica, French Guiana, Reunion, Maohi Nui (French Polynesia), Guadeloupe and Martinique - participated in the videoconference and discussed the issues of independence and the right to self-determination in the said territories. They shared their experiences and views and emphasized the importance of strengthening international solidarity and support mechanisms. The participants emphasized that such meetings play an important role in contributing to the solution of colonial and post-colonial problems in overseas territories and in organizing the struggle for independence more effectively.
During the video conference, the situation after the Boujival Agreement and the necessary steps to be taken towards the declaration of independence were widely discussed among the participants.
Kanak representatives once again stated that they rejected the Boujival Agreement and were in favor of conducting dialogues with France based solely on independence. The leaders of the Baku Initiative Group, the Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front, Nazione, the People's Union for the Liberation of Guadeloupe, the Guadeloupe International Reparations Movement and the Progressive Multicultural New Caledonia organizations held extensive discussions on this issue. At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to take joint steps within the framework of the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly.
