"A UN official has thanked Azerbaijan for its efforts to combat climate change," UNFCCC Senior Director for Programme Coordination Daniele Violetti said during his speech at the opening ceremony of the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, APA reports.
He said Azerbaijan’s contribution to the UN climate process has always been timely and important: “Under Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency, a new Collective Finance Goal on climate finance was adopted, and the rules on international carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement were finalized. This enables Parties to achieve their targets more efficiently and creates opportunities to unlock new sources of finance for developing countries."
He noted that the main task from now on is to accelerate the implementation of such initiatives, identify factors hindering action and find practical ways to overcome those obstacles.
“Governments cannot do this alone. Businesses, the financial sector, cities, and civil society represented in this hall are important partners."
