US President Donald Trump has instructed relevant federal agencies to exclude Canadian-made products from government procurement plans worth more than $50 billion annually, APA reports.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Canada of benefiting from the United States for years while restricting access for American small businesses and companies to Canadian government procurement markets.
Trump said US agencies, including the General Services Administration, which oversees federal procurement, would take retaliatory measures.
“No reciprocity, no access from now on,” the US president said.
Trump added that all necessary measures would be taken to remove Canadian products from US government procurement until Canada fully applies the principles of reciprocity and fairness toward American farmers and businesses.
The move comes amid heightened trade tensions between the United States and Canada.
