“The climate crisis cannot be solved by the efforts of a single country,” COP31 Executive Director Fatma Varank said during her speech at the opening ceremony of the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, APA reports.
She thanked the Government of Azerbaijan and the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change for organizing the meeting: “The biggest challenge between our goals and their implementation is financing. It is not possible to close this gap through state budgets alone. We invite banks, investors and companies to be at the very center of the green transformation. We aim to bring together on the same bridge the country in need and the finance offering a solution. The ideas to be voiced here today will further advance the COP31 action agenda. We are preparing this major gathering shoulder to shoulder with Australia.
We have announced the thematic agenda of COP31 in line with the priorities of the action agenda. In Antalya, each priority issue will be addressed through ministerial-level dialogues, business discussions and announcements related to partnerships. There is a saying in Anatolia rooted in thousands of years of wisdom: ‘One stone does not make a wall.’ The climate crisis cannot be stopped by the strength of a single country alone. The stones need to be tightly bound together. The measure of our success will be determined not by the words written in declarations, but by the real transformation we create on the ground. We will go to Antalya not only with stronger targets, but also with the partnerships, projects, and financing that will implement those targets. We will begin by uniting, grow through consensus, and deliver through action. Once again, I invite you all to COP31, which will be held in Antalya in November."
