Anewz has investigated, based on open sources, the structure of the international campaign seeking the release of Ruben Vardanyan and the legal, lobbying and communications links behind it, APA reports.
The material states that the campaign encompasses a platform provided by the Ruben Vardanyan Charitable Foundation, international lawyers, US-registered lobbyists, diaspora organisations and professional communications firms.
The investigation notes that the terms and conditions of the Free Armenian Prisoners campaign website identify the Ruben Vardanyan Charitable Foundation as the provider of the platform and state that information on the website is posted by that provider.
Anewz also referred to filings submitted under the US Lobbying Disclosure Act. According to the documents, law firm Perseus Strategies registered in January 2024 to represent the interests of Vardanyan’s son, David Vardanyan, with the stated purpose of the activity being to advocate for Ruben Vardanyan’s release.
According to Anewz’s calculations, the official disclosures show a total of $75,000 in income from this lobbying activity. The material stresses that this amount does not reflect the full extent of legal and communications expenses.
The investigation states that the lobbying activity involved contacts with the US Senate, the House of Representatives, the State Department, and the National Security Council.
The material also notes that employees of Edelman Global Advisory and H/Advisors were listed at various times as media contacts in press releases concerning Vardanyan.
Anewz wrote that legal defence, diaspora activity, lobbying, international humanitarian initiatives and the media campaign have formed an interconnected communications ecosystem.
At the same time, the publication stressed that these open-source links do not prove that all participants were financed or managed from a single centre.
