Azerbaijan court hands down sentence in anti-state calls case

The trial of Jahid Kamal Isayev, who was accused of making public calls against the state, has concluded, APA reports.

During the final hearing held under the chairmanship of Judge Farid Namazov at the Baku Court for Grave Crimes, the prosecutor asked the court to sentence the defendant to 9 years and 6 months in prison.

Following deliberations, the court announced its verdict and sentenced Jahid Kamal Isayev to 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment.

Recall that Jahid Kamal Isayev, a Russian citizen residing in Russia, was detained by Azerbaijan's State Security Service (SSS) while traveling in Türkiye in November 2025 and extradited to Azerbaijan.

Isayev was charged under Articles 281.2 (public calls against the state committed by a group of persons), 281-1.2 (dissemination by a group of persons of attributes and symbols aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan), and 283.2.1 (incitement of national, racial, social or religious hatred and enmity involving the use or threat of violence) of the Criminal Code.
