"The volume of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian route has increased by 62% this year," said Yerkin Tukumov, the Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies, who joined the 4th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Expert Council online, APA reports.
He noted that the volume of $500 million in trade turnover does not fully reflect the potential of the countries: "This year we are marking the 20th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship and Strategic Cooperation between our countries. In a period when wars are taking place in the global arena, this friendship and cooperation is of great importance. I believe that $500 million in trade turnover is very little. Overall, we should focus on infrastructure projects. We plan to complete the construction of a railway line that will increase the volume of cargo transportation to China by mid-year. Azerbaijan is interested in developing cooperation with both Central and South Asia. Kazakhstan supports Azerbaijan's efforts to increase the volume of cargo transportation to the South Caucasus region. The volume of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian route has increased by 62% this year. Our countries have common historical roots. Without understanding internal dynamics and regional specifics, the established connections will, of course, not be broad. Expanding cooperation between our scientists working at universities in our countries is also very important. I suggest that we hold a meeting with the participation of representatives from South Caucasus and Central Asia countries to discuss the prospects of our cooperation and our weak points. I also propose holding the 5th anniversary meeting of the Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan Expert Council."
