Azerbaijan's diplomacy in strengthening global peace has been highly appreciated, this is mentioned in the Joint Statement adopted yesterday as a result of the first Strategic Meeting of the Climate and Conflict-Affected Countries Network, held last month in Abu Dhabi, APA reports citing Presidency of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29).
In the official information released by the COP29 presidency, the adoption of this important position document by the Network is considered a significant step in the development of the platform established at the UN Climate Conference held in Baku last year.
It is noted that the Network's Strategic Meeting organized by Azerbaijan’s ongoing COP29 presidency and hosting of UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has brought government representatives from countries vulnerable to climate change and conflicts, international organizations, and financial institutions together. During the event, specific steps were discussed to ensure climate finance for vulnerable countries and strengthen national capacities.
As a result of the meeting, the Joint Statement of the Network and the Roadmap for joint action, adopted through the continued coordination work supported by the COP29 presidency, not only aims to form a unified position for the countries within the group but also envisions the implementation of specific projects.
The Joint Statement expresses special thanks to the Government of Azerbaijan for its initiative in launching the "Baku Call on Climate Action for Peace, Relief, and Recovery" during COP29. Furthermore, it emphasizes that the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub, established within this initiative, is a "unique mechanism for cooperation among partners working in humanitarian aid, development, peacebuilding, and climate sectors."
The COP29 information notes that, through the partnership platform created around the Baku Center, Azerbaijan’s presidency will continue to support the Network, strengthen the national capacities of countries vulnerable to climate, conflict, and humanitarian needs, and promote joint action based on the principle of "Solidarity for a Green World."
It should be noted that the mentioned Network was created at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Baku last year. Additionally, based on the Baku Peace Call adopted at that conference, it was decided that the Baku Center would be located in Baku under the patronage of the COP29 Presidency.
