Serbia to hold parliamentary and presidential elections on May 6

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic Dejanovic has called parliamentary elections for 06 May, 2012 when also parliamentary, provincial and local elections are to be held, APA was told at the Serbian embassy to Azerbaijan. Djukic-Dejanovic signed the decision to call the presidential election for this date after having received a letter from Serbian President Boris Tadic, who informed her about his resignation. Tadic thus terminated his mandate, and from now until the new president of Serbia takes office, the duty of the president, in accordance with the Serbian Constitution, will be carried out by Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic. The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Slavica Djukic Dejanovic address to the citizens of the Republic of Serbia: “The President of the Republic of Serbia Boris Tadic informed the public and me that he had resigned from the post of President of the Republic. Under these circumstances the Constitution and Law on the President of the Republic transfer part of the duty from the President of the Republic to the National Assembly Speaker. Our country’s institutions will continue to function, and I shall perform the assumed duties conscientiously and in compliance with the laws and our Constitution. One of the duties and obligations stipulated is calling presidential elections, and it falls within my competence. I have just signed the Decision calling these elections and scheduled them for 6 May 2012, the same day when the parliamentarian, provincial and local elections are to be held. I wish the participants of the elections success and the citizens of Serbia that the results of the elections be in Serbia’s and our best interestâ€.
