Baku hosts event on 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan-US diplomatic relations

Baku. Victoria Dementieva â€“ APA. The event on 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and US has been held in Baku today. APA reports that ChargÃ© dâ€™Affaires at U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan Adam Sterling addressed the event: â€œHe said that US supported the development of Azerbaijan as peace loving, prosperous, independent and democratic state and would do best for supporting it afterwards: â€œAzerbaijan is strong partner of the US both in this region and the worldâ€.

Sterling said that the relations between two countries relied on mutual interests in the fields of security, energy, democratic and economic reforms: â€œAzerbaijan plays an important role in the spheres of security and anti-terrorismâ€.

Speaking about security issues, the diplomat said that â€œNothing can be more important than our joint stability in the peaceful and fair settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflictâ€. He also said that as one of the OSCE Minsk co-chair countries, the US continues the close cooperation with the sides in order to achieve the long-term settlement by means of negotiations.

Azerbaijanâ€™s Deputy Foreign Minister, rector of Azerbaijani Diplomatic Academy Hafiz Pashayev, representatives of diplomatic corpses, as well as former ambassador of US to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza participate in the event.
