Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. Elkhan Suleymanov, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Delegation to the EURONEST PA, has made a statement on the outcomes of the second session of EURONEST PA held in Baku, APA reports. The statement reads that Azerbaijan tried to be inclusive host, caring for the security and welfare of all the guests, giving a particular attention to the well-being of the distinguished Armenian delegation.

“We, ourselves, did not threaten to endanger the functioning of EURONEST when, during the session in Armenia of this spring of one of the EURONEST committees, our hosts there surrounded us with speakers, maps and images that were, in principle, completely against international law and several UN resolutions. We thought it paramount to find a way to cooperate and move forward, when meetings were held in rooms with the map of the occupied Azeri territories being represented as part of Armenia. We are therefore surprised and disappointed that our Armenian colleagues responded to our efforts through their point of order made on the 3rd of April. We are surprised at this attack on our right to express our problems to our guests, on our right to free speech, and disappointed that, despite our best efforts, the assembly in Baku was marred with this unfortunate dispute. We urge, therefore, our colleagues not allow this sad episode to endanger all our work so far. As shown during our 2nd Ordinary Plenary Session, Azerbaijan is a peaceful country, open to cooperation with all. Our right to abide by international law and European values should be safeguarded, as should it be for all our partners and friends in EURONEST,” the statement reads.
