Dublin conference to focus on conflict resolution efforts
# 04 April 2012 08:09 (UTC +04:00)
The conference will present the experience of achieving a peaceful political settlement in Northern Ireland as a case study of possible relevance to conflict resolution efforts in the OSCE area. There will be sessions on the political process which led to the settlement and is sustaining it; on policing and justice issues; on accommodating and respecting different traditions; and on the international dimension to the achievement of the settlement.

The conference, which is open to all 56 participating States, will be moderated by the former President of Finland, Martti Ahtisaari. Speakers include Deputy Prime Minister Gilmore, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier, US Senator George Mitchell, who chaired the Northern Ireland political negotiations, and senior political figures with first-hand experience of the peace process. It will be a unique opportunity to hear from those involved how the political settlement in Northern Ireland was achieved and is functioning today.
