Argentine Senate adopts document welcoming embassy opening in Azerbaijan

The author of the document is the chairman of the Senate’s Friendship Group with Azerbaijan Pablo Verani.

Press service of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Minister told APA that the document says that Argentina was one of the first countries which recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on 9 March 1992 and since that period the two countries have maintained friendly relations and cooperation. The two countries signed a number of documents in different fields. The Friendship Group with Azerbaijan was established in the Argentine Senate on 23 August, 2011.

The document says that Azerbaijan and Argentina have complementary capacities, especially broad potential of cooperation in the sphere of scientific technologies, agriculture. The significant development is observed in economic relations of the two countries and the trade between the two countries has increased by 44% only in 2010.

The document also says that the promising Azerbaijani-Argentine cooperation created the ground for establishing of diplomatic offices in both countries. For this purpose, the embassy of Azerbaijan started functioning in Buenos Aires in 2010 and finally this year the government of Azerbaijan also passed a decision to open an embassy in Baku.

The document welcomes decree No 273/2012 signed by the president of Argentine which is related to opening of the Argentine embassy in Azerbaijan.

On February 28, 2012, Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner signed a decree on the establishment of Argentine embassy in Azerbaijan and during his visit to Azerbaijan on March 2 Minister of Foreign Affairs Hector Timerman presented a copy of the document to the Azerbaijani side.
