Azerbaijan addresses UN Secretary General concerning Armenia’s aggressive policy
“By the instruction of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan I have the honor to draw your attention to the ceasefire violation by the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia, in particular, the violation of ceasefire stated in December 2011 and January 2012 (see the annex to the letter).
As a result of the ceasefire violation two servicemen of the armed forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan were killed and one civilian wounded.
According to the annex to the letter, during this period, the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia continued intensive firing on both military and civilian targets in Azerbaijan shelling from their positions both in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and in Armenia.
This period was also marked by the hostile statements by the Armenian authorities. The statements by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on the 20th anniversary of the country’s armed forces on January 22, 2012 (www.president.am/events/statements/eng/?id=121 ) and at the 9th Conference of the Volunteer Homeland Defenders Union on February 18, 2012 (http://www.president.am/events/statements/end/?id=122) contained fresh examples of blatant cynical distortion and perversion of the root causes, course and consequences of the war unleashed by Armenia against Azerbaijan.
In fact, glorifying his armed forces, which can be subject to shame and scorn in the civil society, as well as the group of cutthroats, who are responsible for atrocious crimes against the peaceful Azerbaijani population in the period of war, Armenian president clearly explain what means “Armenian brand†and “system of Armenian values†in his opinion.
Whilst Armenian propaganda machine unceasingly criticizes Azerbaijan for alleged increase of military budget and preparations for war, Armenian president makes statements, giving clear evidence of unjustified militarization of his country. During his visit to the NATO headquarters in 2010, Serzh Sargsyan declared that “the Armenian army has types of ammunition that countries ten times the size of Armenia would dream of having†(www.nato.int/cps/en/natolive/opinions_63920.htm). In his statement made on January 22, 2012, Armenian president pointed out that “at the beginning we were counting arms and even bullets, while today we have an impressive level of weaponryâ€.
Besides Armenia extends its military presence in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Recent mass media reports said that Armenian armed forces use surveillance drones in those territories. Armenia demonstrates these aircrafts during the military parade on September 21, 2011.
The above-mentioned reports confirm that the policy of aggression, hatred and falsification pursued by Armenia prevents the efforts towards the settlement of the conflict through the negotiations and creates serious threat to international peace, security and stabilityâ€.
