Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili: “Azerbaijan-Georgia union is stronger than everâ€
“Even the most severe repressions could not kill our aspirations for freedom. The events happening in Russia today don’t differ from those that happened 100 years ago. Mahammad Amin Rasulzadeh’s dreams didn’t die and became a reality 20 years ago. The Soviet Union collapsed, as the people could not tolerate any more how this country tried to stop the march of history. Now there is no way back. Now Georgia and Azerbaijan have created a state that can not be destroyed. We live in 2012 and all must understand that the attempts to revive the Soviet Union are doomed to failure in 2012. People will not give up their freedom and independence and opportunity to choose their own path freely. Russia will also come to this conclusion and understand that it is better to have strong neighbors than unstable vassals, it is better to have partners than enemies. I do not want to see Russia weak. Actually, I wish to see proud, self-confident Russian Federation, not the Russia telling its population myths.â€
Mikheil Saakashvili said that Azerbaijan-Georgia union is stronger than ever: “The merits of President Ilham Aliyev and convergence of the views of the administrations of the two states played great role in it. We want to raise our alliance to the highest level in the future. We discussed concrete and effective projects yesterday and these projects are equally beneficial to our peopleâ€.
Mikheil Saakashvili cited to the novel “Ali and Nino†and said that now Azerbaijan and Georgia are able to jointly rewrite the ending of this novel: “We can turn tragic past to a happy ending. We can and must do so that the love of Ali and Nino is no more broken by foreign invaders, today’s Ali and Nino can live in the flourishing countries, away from war. Surely it will be so.â€
