Today is the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijanâ€™s accession to the United Nations

According to APA, On March 2, 1992 at the 46th session of UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the accession of Azerbaijan to this organization.

Then, before the UN headquarters in New York raised the flag of Azerbaijan. On May 6 of that year, the UN Mission of Azerbaijan started its activity.

Then began the full cooperation of Azerbaijan, as with the UN, and as part of this international organization.

Azerbaijan has made efforts to use the UN platform to attract world attention to the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh. Many times the question was raised about the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and the Karabakh conflict.

The UN Security Council in 1993 adopted a resolution, 822,853,874 and 884 on the Nagorno-Karabakh. In these resolutions, reaffirming the territorial integrity of the country, requires immediately declare a ceasefire, to stop fighting and withdraw occupation forces from Azerbaijani lands.

Today, Azerbaijan is closely cooperating with UN agencies such as the Development Program, the High Commissioner for Refugees, UNICEF, the Organization for Science, Education and Culture, the Organization for Industrial Development, World Health Organization, Foundation for Women, International Atomic Energy Agency, Organisation Agreement on the general prohibition of nuclear tests .

Last year, Azerbaijan was elected to the 2-year non-permanent member of UN Security Council.
