Ministry of Foreign Affairs comments on summoning of Azerbaijani ambassador to Iranian Foreign Ministry

Baku. Anakhanum Hidayatova – APA. Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iran Javanshir Akhundzadeh was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran. APA reports quoting the Iranian newspapers that an explanation was demanded from the ambassador in connection with the spread of information in the press about the $1.6- billion arms deal between Israel and Azerbaijan.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elman Abdullayev commented on the summoning of the Azerbaijani ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran. “20 percent of Azerbaijani lands are under occupation. Recently we commemorated the 20th anniversary of Khojaly genocide. This tragedy was perpetrated before the eyes of the world. Therefore, Azerbaijan has the right to return their land and will do its best for it. Our position was always based on the international law”, said Abdullayev and added that Azerbaijan has independent and balanced foreign policy: “We always attach importance to the principle of friendly neighborhood. This policy should be respected”.
