An agreement has been reached on the extradition of an internationally wanted individual to Azerbaijan, APA reports.
According to the Press Service of the Prosecutor General's Office, following negotiations conducted after the submission of an extradition request and all documents required under international procedures to the competent authorities of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, an agreement was reached on the extradition of Pakistani citizen Qasim Sohail Mohammad to Azerbaijan.
According to materials collected in a criminal case under preliminary investigation by the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Internal Affairs, there are reasonable grounds to suspect that Qasim Sohail Mohammad, acting as part of an organized group using electronic information technologies, illegally obtained funds from the bank accounts of customers of foreign banks, used those funds to purchase various goods online from stores operating in Baku, and later sold the goods through mobile trading to convert the proceeds into cash, as well as committing other illegal acts.
Based on the collected evidence, a decision was made to charge him in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. As he evaded the investigation, a pre-trial detention measure was imposed, and he was placed on the international wanted list through the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Baku.
As a result of operational search measures, the suspect was located and detained in the United Kingdom.
The Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Justice is currently taking the necessary measures in accordance with international procedures to transfer him to Azerbaijan.
The Prosecutor General's Office stated that it will continue close cooperation with foreign partner institutions, including Interpol, to identify internationally wanted individuals and secure their extradition to Azerbaijan.
