Moscow. Farid Akbarov – APA. APA’s interview with Russian presidential candidate, chairman of Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov

- How will be the Russian-Azerbaijan relations if you are elected Russian President?

- Russia’s Caucasus policy must be more interesting, more conscientious and wiser, including its policy on Azerbaijan… Azerbaijan is a developed country. I have many memories on Baku. My father was wounded in Sevastopol during the Great Patriotic War. He was sent to Baku for treatment. He underwent treatment in Baku military hospital. My other pleasant memory is about the meeting with Heydar Aliyev. There were friendly relations between us. We often met in the congresses and carious events. Baku left warm and unforgettable feelings in my heart and I have many friends there.

I follow the development in Azerbaijan with great interest. President Ilham Aliyev is skillful politician. Azerbaijan is rapidly developing under his leadership and today it turned into the most developing country in the region. I wish success and tranquility to your country. Remember that Azerbaijan is reliable, loyal and friendly country for me.

- How do you see the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict?

- You know that this is not an easy problem. This problem must be gradually settled via reasonable and balanced negotiations. I want to say that I will make maximal efforts for the settlement of this problem after my election as president. I will contribute to the peaceful settlement of this problem.

- You know that Dmitry Medvedev organized several meetings between the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents in the past years. He undertook mediating mission on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Which policy will you pursue in this sphere after your election as president?

- Yes, Medvedev actively participated in the trilateral meetings. I also support the holding of meetings in such format. I always support the peaceful negotiations. I will make maximal efforts for the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict after my election as president.
